Meet Paige Marie Berg

It is our pleasure to introduce Paige Marie Berg, who is a Process Automation Engineer at Vantage Plastics. Implementation of process automation is a significant focus within the company’s vision, so Paige’s role in fulfilling this objective is an important one. Paige grew up in an area of Saginaw, Michigan, in Carrollton Township, where her parents Carol and Jerry still reside. She has one brother named Nathan, who lives in Dallas, Texas. The apple of her eye is her daughter Summer Rose Pnacek who is two and a half years old. Paige recently purchased her first house in nearby Auburn, Michigan. She spends much of her spare time remodeling and decorating her new home. Most recently, she has been decorating for Christmas and just loves how her daughter Summer is getting so excited at the age she is now.
After graduating from High School, Paige attended Delta College to pursue an associate’s degree in Welding Engineering Technology and applied to Ferris State University to get into their welding engineering program. After a three-year wait, she was finally accepted into the program. In the interim, she worked as a welder until she was accepted. During the time she was working as a welder, she began learning how to program robots. While attending Ferris, she worked as a manufacturing engineer at Morbark Industries in Winn, Michigan. Upon graduation, she accepted a full-time position with them in a dual role as a welding and manufacturing engineer. During this time, she did lots of work with engineers capturing tribal knowledge and working on programming development.
Paige has now been with Vantage Plastics for a little over a year in her new role. When asked about entering a career that has largely been male-dominated, Paige says, “It can be challenging at times because sometimes I feel like I need to prove myself. However, there are times when it can be beneficial. Many times, there is a need for a great deal of physical strength, and I can always ask one of the guys for help.” Paige also feels women tend to be more nurturing and have a longer fuse within the manufacturing environment. She attributes some of her “toughness” to her grandmother who worked in the NASCAR circuit and her mother who has worked as a bartender for several years. Her grandmother was actually offered an opportunity to be the first female NASCAR driver but turned it down due to focusing on raising her family. When asked what she thinks about working at Vantage Plastics, Paige says, “I love that it is a family-oriented company. I can spend time with my daughter when something comes up and not have to worry about losing my job. Everyone is so personable. Even the owners know and call people by name and take an interest in our lives. I also love how everybody works together as a team. I feel this is particularly true within the engineering group. Since we are all from the same general era, we help pick each other up and support each other when needed.” Paige says, “I really enjoy troubleshooting to get to root causes when issues arise.” Paige recently decided she would like to obtain a Master’s degree in Engineering Management and has discovered an online program to do so.
Outside of work, besides spending as much time as she can with her daughter and setting up her new home, Paige likes anything that has to do with the outdoors and pursues several hobby interests. She enjoys hunting, bowls in a league, plans on raising some chickens, and is setting up an area in her basement to pursue wine making. As a member of the Vantage Plastics’ Team, Paige Marie Berg has certainly been helping fulfill the Vantage Plastics’ Mission of Forming Better Lives, Forming Solutions, and Forming Sustainable Futures.
