Vantech, a new material available in both anti-chafing and anti-skid formulations has been successfully launched after extensive research and development. Vantech was developed in partnership with a material compounder to address the increasing concerns about cleanliness for highly machined parts and parts with rough surfaces being shipped in plastic trays. After many revisions and extensive testing, Vantech has been shown to offer considerable improvement in eliminating chips and shavings and has officially been launched on two applications.
The first project was to create a slip sheet to place on the top layer of a pack for a customer shipping sharp machined transmission parts. Previously the customer was using an empty top layer of trays to accomplish this. With the Vantech slip sheet added the customer was able to lower the unit load height of the pack, eliminate two trays per unit load thus saving costs, and to stop the possibility of contamination to the transmission product because of the Vantech anti-chafing properties.
The second project involved protecting machined gears. The fully machined twelve pound gears would previously shave the plastic trays when loaded. This contamination was causing quality concerns and rejected parts within the customer’s facility. The solution was to create the trays using the Vantech material. This drastically reduced the possibility of contamination and prevented small pieces of the plastic trays from shaving and causing quality rejects.
This breakthrough in material has drastically eliminated the plastic contamination concerns normally seen in shipping machined parts in plastic trays.
